are focused on their goals and the staff support them. My job is to en- sure the staff deliver excellent custo- mer service to the members and the members respect them.5. Can you share with us some of your developing plans?Dr. Lim has asked me to visit all the offices and staff in the first six mon- ths so I am planning quite a few trips. While there, I will listen to members and share some of the exciting ideas to make sure they too support them. Having motivated and happy staff is key to delivering good customer ser- vice to the members so some specific training and mentoring are planned.6. What is your typical day like?A typical day will start early, I love sunrise. I meet lots of people and tryto greet them in their local language, after all I’m their guest so it’s a cour-tesy. I write complete text not ab- breviated so it takes more time to doe-mails and messages but it is quality not speed which is important to me in communicating with people. I use social media so I read a lot which also helps me to get to know people and I then post messages encouraging people. If travelling, this is often done at airports and in the hotel either last thing at night or first thing in the mor- ning.7. I heard you are involved in impor- tant charity activities. Can you ple- ase tell us about it?When my father was diagnosed with advanced cancer of the prostate, I wanted to do something positive so I set up a group and help organise an annual fund and awareness event to support research at our local universi-ty, Birmingham. I was also GM for five years at a charity helping families of Palestinians in the West Bank, Israel and Jordan with medical, educatio- nal, housing and work support. I have been very fortunate in my life and I think we should help others less for- tunate.8. How do you prefer to spend your time when you’re not working?I am lucky to live in a village near both the countryside and the city. I cycle in the countryside and walk in the parks either on my own or with Sheila. And of course, a walk sometimes takes me to the famous English meeting place, the pub where I can have some tradi- tional drink, ale.6DXN LIFE Magazine
